Moths

As usual, as we work in the garden we get to see strange and beautiful insects. TK was feeding the chicken when he saw this and managed to captured it with his new Galaxy W ... it produce a pretty good picture.

Yup, a mating pair of beautiful metallic blue moths (we think)..

Fantastic!

Unknown Insect

As usual, we get a lot of strange insects in the garden some of which strayed into the house. This was one that came into the house.

Thought it was a dragonfly - some 7 cm long.....

Then it settled down ...

and folded it's wings.

So we have no idea what was this insect .... it looks rather pretty.

Gaint Grasshoppers

We do have a lot of grasshoppers in the garden, especially these giant grasshoppers - some of them with body lengths (from head to tip of abdomen) of up to 12.5 cm (5"). They may be pests but we leave them be as they are such amazing creatures .... as seen in this mating pair.

Lovely creatures!

The gaden is looking great now ...

... with many of the flowers in full bloom, especially the big torch gingers. They made for a really nice backdrop to the garden ... as  they are really too big to be in the middle of the garden :-)

I especially like the pink and red but the blooms are much rarer than the other three which have a profusion of blooms at various stages from new buds to full blooms. The current hot weather with almost daily heavy showers seems to be good for them. I am too lazy to harvest the fruits - the fruit pulp make for a good dish when prepared with belacan (a local fermented prawn paste).

Family ....

We have a large branch of the Phang Family in Indonesia and both branches are direct descendents of my great-grand parents. My grandfather, who was the youngest son,  emigrated from China to Sarawak. One of his older brother emigrated to Kalimantan. The remaining brothers and sisters stayed behind in China.
One of my cousin from our Indonesian branch of our family just paid a visit to my mum. She was happy to see them. He also updated us on our family branches in China.
As for our China branches of the family, due to some nasty issues some eighty years ago, our Sarawak branch of the family refused to be associated with them and none in our family have ever been to visit them in China. I do not supposed the rift will ever be resolved :-)

In a multi-generational family .....

The Matriarch of the Phang family meeting the newest addition to the family this morning in this first meeting of a very happy great-great-grandmother with her first great-great-granddaughter ....

Of course, a red packet of money was given to the child.
